As a token of encouragement regarding missions mobilization for Congo River Mission, a family member made me a painting some years ago. It is called Vessels of Honor and depicts the Congregation as clay jars that emerge through the torn curtain of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ so long ago. There are those jars with handles and spouts, and tall jars easy to hold and use according to their talents and spiritual gifts, – and there are those fat and lazy pew warmers not making the difference that they have individually been called for in God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Start making your difference as called today, not forgetting Congo River Mission in prayer and action.
The Baptist Missionary Society (BMS) had sent two missionaries from Cameroon to start mission work along the Congo River in 1878. By 1925 and up to 1959, or perhaps as late as 1970, al the mission work was handed over to the local church. Yet, as we read this entry, it can be stated from personal investigative experience between 2004 and 2014, that souls are lost daily from isolated villages where the Gospel of Good News had not been preached, nor had disciples been made in rural context, in this generation! There are isolated villages along the Congo River and its tributaries that have NOT heard the Gospel of Good News preached to them! Yes, they have heard about Jesus, but have not been evangelized, baptized and taught everything that Jesus had commanded! They have no congregations and no encouragement nor any Epistles of Paul to guide their new Christian conduct. How can they hear if no one is sent? Kisangani has four harbours and lends itself to be a central Africa hub port! Congo River commerce holds tremendous potential for economic development. Reaching isolated villages with Good News b.m.o. riverboats is practical but must be pursued by the Church!
I find myself at crossroads from time to time. I have been mobilizing for Congo River Mission in the Church since 2004. Sharing the Matthew 24:14 vision for overcoming stubborn existing obstacles new breakthroughs and establishing new sustainable methods to reach the unreached at the ends of the earth along the Congo River and its Tributaries cannot take 17 years to be realized from the pews and pulpits of mighty church of God and grand mission organizations, – can it?
Southern-Africa Development Outreach between Cape Town and Kisangani, as well as Congo River Mission have as part of their objectives for sustainable outreach to isolated villages in the NE DR Congo and between Kisangani and Kinshasa, the vision to endow church plants and existing rural congregations with agricultural enterprise practice. It cannot be that a war in the Ukraine is depriving the world of food. If Revelation 6 warns us, then Christians should have been responding in pro-active full Great Commission sending as well as faith in action purpose already!
Where, how and why does the Church want to be positioned for righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit by 2030? This while lawlessness, immorality, questionable ethics, weather manipulation, problems with water and electricity supply, migration problems, border control problems, serious economic problems, cultural conflicts, centralized government, centralized banking, centralized intelligence, invasive AI, manipulated travel, digital currencies and poisoned antidotes bring disorder to God’s now stewardless creation? Will I remain a voice alone in mobilizing for reaching isolated villages along the Congo River and its tributaries until 2030 and beyond, – the Great Commission incomplete? Sending partners calloused or compromised?
